IMEX America: Let's Get Creative -- Interactive Sessions And New Play Room

Creativity and engagement are set to top the agenda at IMEX America this year. A new Play Room and dedicated education sessions from both meeting and entertainment professionals are set to provide a fresh look at meeting planning.

The new Play Room, powered by Play With A Purpose, will be held throughout IMEX America, 13 -- 15 October in Las Vegas, offering attendees a creative, interactive, hands on "play space".

With 'quirkshops' during Smart Monday on 12 October and on the Inspiration Hub throughout the show, the Play Room will showcase a variety of tools and techniques, providing planners with immediately useable ideas to implement in meetings. Quirkshops will cover room design, technology, networking tools and teambuilding ideas, enabling planners to create more engaging, creative meetings. Planners can work with others to get to grips with human whiteboarding, gamification, humour power and zen tangles among others.

The Inspiration Hub, home to all show floor education during IMEX, has a dedicated creative learning track with impactful sessions designed to boost engagement and create a memorable delegate experience.

Human connection -- a lost art in a noisy world will be delivered by award winning magician and MPI Keynote Tim David on 13 October. Through his work, Tim has learned what makes people tick and will share many tips in this motivational presentation uncovering the key to effective and persuasive communication and fostering connections.

Award winning film director Josh Tickell makes movies geared toward the 80 million people between the ages of 18-35. According to Inc. Magazine, he is "America's #1 Strategist" for connecting with the Millennial Generation (also known as Generation Y). His MPI Keynote Managing and marketing to the future of Generation Y on 14 October is set to explore this further, explaining how to tailor sustainability policies, communication, HR and customer service to meet the needs of the attendees of the future.

Patrick Henry, former Nashville songwriter, performer and MPI keynote says: "If you can't create an emotional connection with your customers...you're going to lose them". His keynote address on 15 October, Becoming 'Remember-able', shares real life stories to show how to build an extraordinary customer experience, achieve personal and professional excellence and build loyalty among their team.

Canada: Vancouver To Host Industry's Top Meeting For Meeting Planners

The Vancouver Convention Centre, Tourism Vancouver and the local hospitality community will welcome the Professional Convention Management Association's (PCMA) flagship education conference, Convening Leaders, from January 10 to 13, 2016.

Now open for registration, PCMA's 60th annual Convening Leaders conference will bring 4,000 industry-leading meeting planners and suppliers to the Vancouver Convention Centre for three days of unparalleled networking and education, showcasing the latest innovations in event technology, meeting design and business event strategy. In addition to contributing an estimated $6.2 million (4.2m Euro / 4.7m USD) in direct spending to the BC economy, the convention represents millions of dollars of potential future meetings business for Vancouver.

In order to generate excitement and stimulate registrations, the Vancouver Convention Centre, Tourism Vancouver and the PCMA Local Host Committee collaborated on a cheeky video. Lithuania: CONVENE Hosted Buyer Programme Opens

Registration for the much sought-after hosted buyer programme of CONVENE has now opened and demand for places on this flexible and comprehensive scheme are once again expected to exceed the places available.

CONVENE 2016, the fourth edition of the event, will provide buyers with complimentary return travel, transfers, hotel accommodation, a buyer only welcome reception and the gala networking event, full daytime and evening refreshments as well as the opportunity of applying for a place on one of a number of fam trips out into region's destinations. Macau: Upcoming Global Tourism Economy Forum - Macau 2015

The Global Tourism Economy Forum, an annual mega event for the tourism industry, will be held at the Venetian Macao from 12 to 14 October 2015 under the theme "Belt and Road Initiative: Unleashing the New Dynamics of Cultural Tourism". The Forum will continue its role as a platform for high-level international exchange and cooperation, once again gathering ministerial officials and tourism leaders from different destinations to contribute ideas for fostering global tourism and economic development.

Global Tourism Economy Forum - Macau 2015 is hosted by the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). A press conference was held at the Tourism Activities Centre in Macao on September 17, 2015, where the Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Lai Ieng Kit gave a remark, followed by an announcement of program highlights and speaker profiles by the Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of GTEF, Pansy Ho.

The Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Lai Ieng Kit, remarked, "The Global Tourism Economy Forum not only offers valuable perspectives and a key direction for the global tourism and related sectors to go forward, but also helps Macao to build the city into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. We will do our best to host the Forum and keep showing Macao's capacity of hosting mega international events as well as our destination's function as a platform for diverse cultural exchanges. The Macao SAR Government will actively support our Country's Belt and Road Initiative and grasp this golden opportunity for development…”

This GTEF edition has successfully lined up the Pacific Alliance countries - Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru - as the Featured Partner Countries, not only extending the Forum's cooperative network to Latin America, but also making a timely response to the latest trends of fostering Sino-Latin American economic and trade relations. Zhejiang Province, a key strategic province along the Maritime Silk Road, will also join the Forum as the Featured Province and showcase the cultural power of the Belt and Road through the prominent Poetry and Painting of Zhejiang exhibition.

Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur: Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Invests RM1.8 million In AV Digital Upgrades

In line with continuous efforts to enhance the delegate and guest experience when attending events at the facility and to maintain their reputation as one of the most technologically-advanced venues in the country, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) has invested RM1.8 million (360 kEuro / 407 kUSD) on 190 new digital speakers and digital audio processors.

The Centre's AV Manager, Norbiha Ismail said: "The digital audio processors are specialised microprocessors that have been optimised for the fast operational needs of digital signal processing. With this, our clients are assured their audio requests will be smooth and accurate. In addition, digitalising will improve our monitoring and control mechanism and in turn, help increase productivity levels."

The 190 new digital speakers and digital audio processors are in the Plenary Theatre, Plenary Hall, Conference Halls 1, 2 and 3, Banquet Hall and Ballrooms 1 & 2. All audio processors in the Exhibition Halls have also transitioned to digital with the existing speakers maintained in analog format.

Oman: Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre Unveils Business Events Solutions To Prospective European Clients

The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) is finalising preparations for its third annual Roadshow in Europe starting 5th of October 2015. In collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, the European Roadshow is a series of exclusive client events presenting the compelling offer of the OCEC as a venue for conferences, congresses and exhibitions, and Oman as a destination, to key decision makers, thought leaders and professional associations across a variety of industries.

The carefully drafted itinerary will include Berlin, Brussels, Geneva and Milan, cities that host high numbers of industry associations. In Milan, the Roadshow will be able to take advantage of the Sultanate's impressive Milan Expo 2015 pavilion, designed to offer a taste of Oman's authentic charm and an introduction to its wide-ranging tourism and investment opportunities.

The centrepiece of Oman's business event development programme, the OCEC is acknowledged as one of the world's most exciting emerging convention and exhibition destinations. With the opening of Phase One in early 2016, which will concentrate on exhibitions, banqueting functions, live events, corporate and government meetings, the OCEC will attract thousands of visitors in its first year of operation. Phase Two, the Convention Centre, will be ready for business in 2017 and will include a tiered, lyric-style 3,200 seat auditorium, another theatre which seats 450, 13 well-appointed meeting rooms, a VIP Pavilion and a Grand and Junior Ballroom which seat 1,360 and 600 in banquet-style respectively. Over the next seven years, the game-changing venue will host up to 446 different events, welcoming, on average, 600,000 visitors a year.

Singapore: Singapore Remains Asia's Top Meeting and Convention City For 2014

Singapore is once again Asia's top meeting and convention city, according to the Union of International Associations (UIA) and International Congress and Convention Association's (ICCA) 2014 global rankings released earlier this year. The city state also retained its spot as the UIA's top international meeting city for the eighth year running, and at the top of Asia Pacific cities in ICCA's rankings for the 13th consecutive year.

Said Ms Neeta Lachmandas, Assistant Chief Executive (Business Development), Singapore Tourism Board: "The accolade is not only a validation of the strength of Singapore's MICE industry, but also a reminder that Singapore needs to continuously up its game in light of the increased competition. While we are humbled that Singapore remains the Asian destination of choice for event owners, we will continue to enhance our vibrant MICE ecosystem further for a more remarkable experience for business visitors."

Singapore's Recent Event Bid Wins

Both rankings served to emphasise that event owners continue to regard Singapore as a top MICE destination. Further testament to the city state's attractiveness is the magnitude and prestige of events recently won.

These wins include the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Conference, which comes to Singapore in 2019, and the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM) World Congress for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering two years later in 2021.

Pinnacle events in their respective fields, the ICN conference and IUPESM World Congress are graced by industry thought leaders and top executives. Open interaction among attendees from different levels, areas of expertise and cultures helps promote knowledge-sharing, and improve the quality of information exchange.

Strong Line-Up Of 2015 Events

In 2015, there are also similarly-high profile events making their debuts either in Asia or Singapore. Examples are the World Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Forum, Sibos 2015, the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Asia Congress, and the recently concluded West Point All-Academies Asia Summit.

Returning to local shores after 12 years is the world's premier financial services event Sibos 2015, which will take place in October. Last here in 2003, the four-day annual business forum is tipped to attract about 7,000 delegates from all over the world, potentially making this the largest Sibos in the Asia Pacific region.

Said Mr Sven Bossu, Head of Sibos: "What made us come back to Singapore was its city infrastructure that has luxurious conference halls and leisure amenities near to one another, allowing us to enhance our event. For instance, the Gardens by the Bay is close to our event venue, Marina Bay Sands, allowing us to organise a 5km fun run and walk before the start of the day, with a view of the Singapore skyline. This gives delegates a chance to better know each other in an informal setting that may potentially lead to a business partnership."

MICE 2020

Aside from the strong pipeline of events in Singapore, a key initiative helping to drive the MICE industry forward is the MICE2020 mid-term roadmap, which is a part of Singapore's approach to Quality Tourism.

The brainchild of a year-long consultation and ideation with the MICE industry, MICE2020 is centred around three core ideas to help give Singapore the edge in an ever-changing global landscape -- offering Singapore as a destination with authentic local offerings and unique, experiential events; turning Singapore into a connected city with the digital capabilities to allow business visitors to do what they need to do seamlessly; and positioning Singapore as Asia's MICE resource capital that is home to skilled talent and knowledge.

Thailand, Chiang Rai: PATA Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference and Mart 2016

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has announced that the PATA Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference and Mart 2016 (AT&RTCM 2016) will be taking place in the historic northern city of Chiang Rai, Thailand from February 17-19, 2016 under the theme "Creating Experiences, Sharing Opportunities".

UK, Manchester: Victoria Warehouse Opens New Event Space As Part of Expansion Plans

Victoria Warehouse in Manchester has announced the opening of its new The Bays area, as part of expansion project which will also see a new basement event space and an extension to the onsite hotel to provide 400 additional rooms. Ideal for conferences, awards dinners, networking events, weddings and private parties, The Bays area features two adjoining spaces.

Guests attending events in The Bays will arrive into Bay 1, the large 200-capacity pre-function room with an open plan kitchen and a large feature bar, before moving through two sets of double doors into the main event space, Bay 2.

Bay 2, which has capacity for 360 guests reception-style, 200 for a dinner and 310 in theatre-style seating, features a full AV package including screens and projectors, colour-changing down lighters on all the pillars, a PA system, and appropriate furniture. Described as a 'plug and play' space, the space is ideal for clients looking for a hassle-free event solution that can be adapted in whichever way is required.

James Cohen, owner of Victoria Warehouse, says: "We are pleased that phase one of our expansion project has been completed and that The Bays is now available for hire…. The next phase of our expansion will see the basement events space completed in late 2016 and the addition of 400 new bedrooms to our onsite hotel to be fully completed by 2017. From 28th September to 2nd October 2015, members of the Convention Development team at NYC & Company showcased New York City's offerings as a MICE destination to influential European buyers, highlighting the City's world-class event venues, meeting spaces and incentive activities.

New York City’s MICE segment grew from 5.9 million delegates in 2013 to 6.1 million in 2014 and expected 6.3 million delegates in 2015.
